Which Windows version /service pack do you use?
Which Microsoft Installer version is installed (run msiexec /? to find the version)?
Did you install/uninstall any applications, or patches since you've updated to version 12.5?
Thank you for your response.
I am running Windows 10 1809 Build 17763.253.
VMware workstation 2 Player is stock with no patches.
Do you have a special reason, why you want to install version 12.x (e.g. CPU compatibility)?
Support has been added for the following host operating systems.
- Windows 10, version 1809
I have no special reason to use 12.5.
I primarily use Vmware Player to host Windows XP which I need to run several legacy programs'
I tried to install V. 14.1 and got Unsupported CPU Detected message.
I just want a working VMware system installed for my rather simple needs.
From what I understood, you had VMware Workstation Player 12.5 running on this system before!?
So it should basically run unless e.g. recent updates changed anything.
What may be wotrth doing at this point (after backing up the system) is to run a system file check (sfc /scannow) for Windows
Thank you , sfc /scannow worked!
I ran this yesterday and for some reason it would not complete the upgrade when I rebooted the computer - but it worked today.
Do you think it's OK to continue with my current version or should I try to upgrade to a newer one?
BTW I really appreciate your quick and knowledgeable responses.
If version 12.x works you're fine.
Version 14, and later require CPUs with a newer feature set, i.e. won't work on older CPUs.
