Other than using the "vmware-toolbox-cmd -v", is ther any way to get the vmware tools version from a Linux VM?

I would like to know how to get vmware tools version from a Linux VM that can be found in a file.  I am trying to output the vmware tools version into IBM BigFix without the need to run the "vmware-toolbox-cmd -v" command.  Is the vmtools version listed somewhere in a file in a Linux VM?

If you're using open-vm-tools (the current recommendation for most modern distros), then yes it's available as a record in your package manager.

I am fairly new to Linux and I am not not sure how to look at the package manager.  Also is there a way to get the version from the process that is running (vmtoolsd)?
