How do I safely increase disk space on VMware Workstation running Fedora and running on host windows10

Hi,

After a small panic attack of defragmentation, I wonder how I can safely increase the disk space on my VM.

I understand that there are options under

>Virtual Machine Settings

     > HARD DISK (20GB)

(on the right panel, I see : Capacity: Current Size 7.1GB, System Free: 100.1 GB, Maximum Size: 20GB)

(on the right panel, below: Disk Information: Disk space is not pre-allocated for this hard disk

Hard disk contents are stored in multiple files.)

          >I have Disk utilities: But the Expand disk capacity Option is not working. I cannot press "Expand..."

My question is how to I safely increase the disk space allocation for this VM ?

Many thanks.

Do you use IDE-disks or snapshots ?

Please attach the VM's vmware.log file - located in the VM's directory/foler - to a reply post.

Note: You will find the Attach link in the lower right of the reply pane.

I am looking into the folder and don't see any vmware.log file.

Let me be specific. I am running windows 10 and the place that vmware seems to be installed on is

>Program Files (x86)

     >VMware

          >VMware VIX

          >VMware Workstation

So, I pick VMware Workstation folder.

In that folder there is no vmware.log

Hi, I found this file 'vmware-usbarb-4368.log' under

>Windows

     >Temp

          >vmware-SYSTEM

along with three other similar log files.

Is that what you were asking for ?

The required vmware.log file is the one that's created in the VM's folder, i.e. where the VM's files (.vmx, .vmdk, ...) are stored.

Note: Please don't paste the log contents, but attach the file to a reply post for better readability.
