Raid adapter is compatible, does DAS box compatibility matter?

I'm looking to add Direct Attached Storage to my Dell per730 host. I see in the vmware compatibility guide that the Perc H830 Raid adapter is compatible up to version 6.7 of esxi. Is that all I need to know? As long as that raid card sees the drives in the DAS box, then Esxi should be able to see the virtual; disks that the RAID adapter creates, should it not? I ask because I am considering buying a powervault MD1200 to expand the storage of my host. I see the MD1200 is not in the compatibility list but I am hoping it only matters that the Perc H830 is

Note I am not asking if it is an officially supported configuration. I am asking if it will work as long as the supported RAID card works with the MD 1200 (which it does).

The MD1200 is a JBOD chassis so ESXi HCL doesnt matter in than special case and only the H830 counts.
