VMnet / VPNC conflict

Running WS Pro 14 on Ubuntu.

After booting the host, when I open a VM, it connects to the network correctly (bridged NAT) and I can access the (non VPN) network as expected.

However, vpnc won't work correctly if the VMware network daemons are running (vmnet-bridge, vmnet-dhcp, vmnet-netifup, etc). The vpnc process starts, but no network connections within the VPN work. Not ssh, not TCP, nothing. If I use "kill <process id>" to kill the VMware network daemons, then VPN connection starts working. Of course, at that point the VM has lost its network connection.

So I can either have the host connected to the VPN or I can have a network connection in the VM, but not both at the same time. I've googled this and haven't found anything useful.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
