Attempting to restore a client-provided backup of a website

Hello,

I'm working with a client who sent me a VMware copy of their website running on a Linux Apache server. They sent me three folders of files: Snapshots (which contains one each of an XML, BIN, and VSV file), Virtual Hard Disks (which contains one AVHD file), and Virtual Machines (which also contains one each of an XML, BIN, and VSV file).

I've never worked with VMware before, and so I don't know what software I need to restore the copy of their site locally (I need to export content from it, ideally). Based on those files, what software do I need to restore the site? Are there any other files or resources I'll need to obtain from the client?

Thank you for any help you can provide. Please let me know if you have any questions I can answer.

AVHD is a file format from Hyper-V (Microsoft Virtualization). You can't import these files directly because VMware infrastructures uses VMDK as virtual disk file format.

So, this can't be "a VMware copy" because it's an AVHD file. 😉

I've never worked with Hyper-V, so I'm not an expert in this. But what I read here: Converting AVHD to VHD

is that AHVD is just a snapshot file. And you need a VHD file which you can convert in a VMDK file format.
