I am attempting to install VMware-Workstation-Full-14.1.3-9474260.x86_64.bundle on my freshly updated Ubuntu 18.04 system. I am running the installer from my Downloads directory.
When I run the installer, it gathers some information, then runs for a bit, then asks me if I want to keep the configuration data, then rolls back and says the installation failed.
When the installer first starts up, I see the following warnings...

Then the installer starts up and appears to work fine, until it fails and rolls back the installation.
I tried the installation in console mode using the --console switch, and like with the graphical installer, it stops before it is finished and says, "Deconfiguring". then asks if I want to save my configuration files. Then fails...
All configuration information is about to be removed. Do you wish to
keep your configuration files? [yes]:
Uninstalling VMware Installer 2.1.0

Installation was unsuccessful.
I have checked the libcanberra-gtx-module and am told by apt that it is the most current version. Same with the Murrine files.
Any ideas?
It appears that you already have a VMware Workstation installed so that the new installer asks whether you want to keep configuration file. You can try firstly to uninstall existing Workstation by "sudo vmware-installer -u vmware-workstation". If uninstallation still fails, you can remove /etc/vmware-installer and try unisntall again. After that you can launch the installer agian.
Let me know if it works for you.
I was having a similar issue and uninstalling vmware-vmrc seemed to work. I'm not sure if you can have both installed at the same time, but Workstation kind of makes the remote unnecessary, so wasn't a big deal for me
as root:
vmware-installer -l
vmware-installer -u vmware-vmrc
Then run the bundle as usual (I prefer --console)
