    VMware Fusion License?

    Dumby Novice

      Hi all,

I bought a VMware Fusion 8.5.8 product over a year and a half ago for my iMac 27 under OS/X 10.9.5, but my license isn't listed in my space where my Windows and Linux VMware Workstations Pro licenses are.

So I can't upgrade but if paying the full price for the last Fusion release!

I sent a note to VMware 3-4 weeks ago with my install key number but... no response!

I always pay the full price for a product I use for the first time, but I also want to benefit of the upgrade policy when available.

      Am I wrong ?

      So, what can I do?

Any advice will be trully appreciated since my current VMware Fusion 8.5.8 release won't work on the next OS/X upgrade I plan to do.

      TIA

      Philippe.

          Hello Philippe,

If you know the serial number for your license then you can register it by yourself when logging in to http://my.vmware.com/

Under menu "Products" you'll find the option "Product Registration" which can be used to register the serial number.

If you don't know the serial number, but still have VMware Fusion installed then you should be able to find the serial number in:

           /Library/Preferences/VMware\ Fusion/

Look for a file that starts with "license-fusion-80"

or paste the following in a terminal:

          cat /Library/Preferences/VMware\ Fusion/license-fusion-80-e*

it should show all your Fusion 8.x licenses.

            Thank you for the hint.

Further, the license # XXXXXXXXXXXXX is exactly what is shown in the lincense dialog of Fusion.

Meanwhile, the registration process refuses that license #.

Any idea how to register it?

              Hi there,

I remover the serial numbers from your post for obvious reasons.

Have you filed a ticket with support? (by emailing desktop-services@vmware.com or by calling 877-486-9273)

Did you purchase the key from store.vmware.com?

Do you have an order ID we can look up on the backend?

                Hi Mikero,

Thanx for your time and concern.

No, I didn't sent a tiket with support yet but I will since I live in France and a phone call abroad may be very expensive.

With regard to my purchase, yes I did it from the official VMware store.

Unfortuantely, I got an HDD failure few months ago and lost most of my e-mails, one of those been the registration key for Fusion.

Fortunately, I saved my registration key on a spare disk.

However, as you can see below, Fusion 8.5.8 works fine (currently, I run Windows 10 Pro 64, Ubuntu 18.04.1 64 and Linux 19.1 64 in 3 different VMs).

                Fusion.png

So, what's the best way to get an upgrade without being obliged to pay the full tag ?

                TIA.

                Philippe

                  Philippe,

You can still file a support ticket (either via my.vmware.com or by emailing the address Mikero gave you)

If they want to talk to you by phone then I'm sure that vmware is happy to call you instead, so no need to worry about expensive phone calls.
