VSAN - 6.5(All are ESXi 6.5) as Virtual - unable to claim capcity tier

Configured 3 node cluster to test VSAN, disabled HA, configured VSAN kernel port (used management nic), presented 40GBx3 as Flash Disk, while configuring disk, Capacity tier not highlighting, vc and esxi running in evaluation, I have done this lab several times, this time unable to resolve the issue, ESXi host was with expired license, fixed license issue by renewing evaluation.

Hello NagangoudaPatil,

"while configuring disk, Capacity tier not highlighting"

Do you mean to say that the devices you intend to use as capacity-tier are not appearing in the list of usable devices?

If so then they likely have existing partitions on them - this can be checked via the Web client at Host > Configure/Manage > Storage Devices > Select the device > Partitions

If they have existing partitions and you are sure you don't require the data on them then these can be removed from this same GUI page.

Another possibility is the devices not being detected/marked as capacity-flash

To claim the disks manually:

  1. Open the vSphere Web Client.
  2. Click the Manage tab and click Settings.
  3. Under vSAN, click Disk Management.
  4. Select the Select all eligible disks option.
  5. Select the disks to include in vSAN.
  6. Click OK.

Please mark this as correct if this answers and helps you .
