vmware cli execution commands prohibited

Hello to everyone,

I'm trying to shutdow virtual machines on my esxi 6.5 server using VMWare Cli, but when I run

vmware.cmd.pl <parameters> stop soft, I gen an error because with my current license ( free) I'm not allowed to execute it.

What license do I need to buy to enable that command?

Thank you all for your support.

Best regards.

Apart from free license you can assign any .

Below are the editions that are available which you could check and go for it :

  1. VMware vSphere Standard
  2. VMware vSphere Enterprise Plus
  3. VMware vSphere with Operations Management (vSOM) Enterprise Plus

VMware or Hyper-V? Part 3: Virtualization Licensing Costs

Thank you for your reply.

c:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware vSphere CLI\bin>vmware-cmd.pl <vmpath> -U <user> -P <pwd>  -H <host> stop hard

Operation cannot be performed:

SOAP Fault:

-----------

Fault string: Current license or ESXi version prohibits execution of the request

ed operation.

Fault detail: RestrictedVersionFault

Other commands like status or -l for list work fine.

What is the license that you are using ?

Have you installed esxi with evaluation license ?

Thats exactly why you are receiving this error , you should have a a valid license , this will not work with free license .
