Did you open case with HPe?
Same here on Vsphere 6.7 and Gen10 servers. Did you get it resolved?
I have the same issue Esxi6.5 running on HP DL360 gen10.
I have logged a call with HP.
The issue occurs if you have ILO5 firmware version 1.30. Downgrading the version to 1.20 resolves the issue.
In iLO 5 1.30 present new sensors: port status. If it down - esx alert warnings.
Actually there is version 1.35 which seems to have resolved the problem on our BL460c Gen10s
We have the same problem on brand-new DL380 Gen10s running 6.7 installed from HPE's custom vSphere image VMware-ESXi-6.7.0-8169922-HPE-Gen9plus-6126.96.36.199.30-Jun2018.iso, all firmware updated to the latest (including iLO 1.35) and we still get the same warning messages. Updating to the latest OEM NIC driver from http://https://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/detail.php?deviceCategory=io&productid=44502 did not resolve it.
In these servers, I've disabled the 4x1g built-in LOM adapter and have installed HPE 10/25Gb 2p 631FLR in the ALOM slot and a HPE 10/25Gb 2p 631SFP28 PCI adapter in each server. These are 2x10g SFP+ adapters. From the warnings below it looks like either the driver is advertising it as a 4-port adapter or the CIM is expecting a 4-port adapter. Either way, with only 2 ports per adapter, the warnings show because of the two non-existing ports. For instance, on both NICs, ports 1 and 2 show ok, ports 3 and 4 (which don't physically exist) show the warning.
Hopefully HPE will either issue an updated CIM or an updated NIC driver. It's hard to tell which one really has the issue.
Looks like HP and VMware are aware of it, at least. See:
Advisory: VMware - The Hardware Sensor Status Reported in the vSphere Web Client Is Not Accurate For HPE ProLiant Gen10 Servers Running VMware ESXi 6.0/6.5/6.7 With HPE Integrated Lights-Out 5 (iLO 5) Firmware Version 1.30 (https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-a00053955en_us)
Multiple hardware sensors status shows as unknown and absent hardware's status shows warning (53134) (VMware Knowledge Base).
Too bad iLO 1.35 didn't fix the issue.
I did not find that the 1.35 firmware cleared the hardware status errors. I had to roll back to 1.20. ML380 Gen10 and ML360 Gen10
I upgraded my Gen10 servers to recently released (Oct 26 2018) version 1.37 of iLo 5 which includes a fixlist item:
- Fixed false errors showing link lost on NICs when link never seen in IPMI.
which I believe to be the fix for this case.
Upgrading the iLo did not immediately resolve the issue for me, but within a few hours all my host warnings for "Status of host hardware objects" in vCenter were gone.
I am running custom Image profile: HPE-ESXi-6.5.0-Update2-Gen9plus-650.U188.8.131.52.5 with upgraded nic driver qfle3 184.108.40.206-1OEM.6220.127.116.1198673; All firmware is updated from Sept 2018 SPP, along with upgraded Innovation Engine 0.1.6.1, Server Platform Services 18.104.22.1683, plus the iLo upgrade to 1.37.
I've the same issue with Vsphere 6.5 U2 on DL380 Gen10.
I have upgraded ILO firmware to v1.37as suggested but the issue still remain.
I had to downgrade iLO to 1.20
Check if the following VMware KB article helps:
To work around this issue, downgrade the HP ILO 5 firmware version 1.30 to 1.20.
Disclaimer: Contact hardware vendor before downgrading to ILO firmware 1.20
