It seems a bit arbitrary, especially in 2018 with all the big CPUs going mainstream.
E.g.: I've got a 14-core/28-thread i9; a software build that should take 8 minutes on this hardware, takes 14 minutes in VMware!
Hyper-V doesn't have this limitation.
But I'd rather pay for and use VMware if it was capable. 😉
