ESXCLI is more concerned with host storage, network and hardware configuration & tasks interacting with vmkernel... where management of VM is limited with esxcli. By the way which advance VM option your'e referring to !
On ESXI shell via locally or remotely you can manage settings via vim-cmd vmsvc command.
