VMWare crashes: PANIC: VERIFY bora\mks\hostops\DX11\DX11ShimOps.c:5332

I've started getting crashes from VMWare and I suspect it is related to my laptop screen turning off

due to the screen saver.  This has just started happening recently. Before a week or so ago VMWare

never crashed.

The vmware-ui-nnn.log file under Users contains:

2018-06-20T15:50:40.842-04:00| vmui| I125: DlgUI: VMware Workstation unrecoverable error: (mks)

while the vmware.log file referenced in the error box contains:

2018-06-20T15:50:39.811-04:00| mks| I125:   file version 14.1.2.33210

This is Windows 10, 64-bit  (Build 16299) 10.0.16299 as a host, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS,

Linux version 4.13.0-45-generic (buildd@lgw01-amd64-011 as a guest using

Workstation 14Pro (14.1.2 build-8497320).

I suspect this is related to a recent Windows update but its hard to know for certain. The last windows update was

on 6/12 & 6/13 which looks like a bunch of application updates but there is this:

    June 12, 2018—KB4284819 (OS Build 16299.492)

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4284819/windows-10-update-kb4284819

I tried setting the VMWare Hardware compatibility setting back down as one article suggested but that

did not help.

One easy work-around here, is that if you disable 3D graphics in your guest, the crash will probably go away.  (If a no-3D guest is still usable for you.)

You might also try the Workstation Technology Preview 2018 , which I believe has some improvements in this area that may or may not help.
