restore data from a single vmdk component

Hi

I have a 3 hosts vSAN cluster and my vms are deployed with FTT=1.

Now I assum that VM1 is deployed with a vmdk copy in host1, the second copy in host2 and the witness in host3.

If I loose host1 and 3 my VM is dead.

The question is: there's a way to restore the data since I have a full vmdk in host2 ?

If I add 2 new hosts, the second vmdk and the witness are automatically created ?

Thanks in advance

Hello vmb01,

"there's a way to restore the data since I have a full vmdk in host2 ?"

"If I add 2 new hosts, the second vmdk and the witness are automatically created ?"

No, as in this state you have lost quorum and thus the capability to determine the currency of the data (e.g. that is just asking for split-brain to be possible and thus it is not designed like this).

While there are technically feasible methods of achieving this, these are unsupported, non-trivial and may not result in usable data, so if you care about your data then you should apply the necessary FTT and back-up regularly.
