You need to go to your MyVMware portal and upgrade your keys from vSphere 5.x to 6.x. Then you'll be able to assign the vCenter 6.x license.

License are usually offered for major versions, so if you upgrade from version 5.x to 6.x you'll need new license keys.

You still have to manually go in your MyVMware portal and upgrade the 5.x keys.

If you have subscription (or had subscription at the day when vSphere 6 was released) you should be able to upgrade the licenses for free in your MyVMware portal.

Yes I do I have a contract, which i recently renewed because it is due to expired in July. So I guess I will go upgrade my licenses and it looks like it is going to tell me what I am allowed to upgrade it to
