Update to Workstation 14.1.2 fails and destroys existing installation

At start workstation 14 informed me that the update 14.1.2 is available.

I clicked on 'download and install'. Some time later I got a message that installation failed with the errorcode 29145.

The message said that the update would be rolled back now.

After finishing the rollback, I expected the working previous version again.

But the old version was deleted and not restored.

So what is a rollback good for if not recovering the old version ?

I had to install the last full version 14.1.0.7370693.

A second try gave the same result.

I am running Workstation on a Windows7 host with the lastest updates.

Do you have a virtual disk mapped to your host? or VMware vCenter Converter installed on your host? Please make sure that unmount any virtual disk and VMware vCenter Converter is not installed. Then you can try following steps:

Step1: Uninstall VMware Workstation

Step2: Delete all files under %TEMP% directory

Step3: Open "cmd" as administrator, and execute "sc stop vmx86 & sc delete vmx86"

Step4: Open "cmd" as administrator, and execute "sc stop vstor2-mntapi20-shared & sc delete vstor2-mntapi20-shared"

Step5: Delete these files if have -- "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\vmx86.sys" "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\drivers\vstor2-mntapi20-shared.sys" and "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\drivers\vstor2-x64.sys"

Step6: Go to c:\windows\system32\drvstore, delete folder which prefix by "vmx86", general the folder name should be vmx86_{guid}

Step7: Reboot host and then install Workstation again

After uninstall of the VMware vCenter Converter I could install the Workstation 15.5.2 without error.

I needed nothing more. Thanks for the hint
