Lost Printer, External Hard Drives

Just upgraded to VMware Fusion 10.1.2 and once again, lost all USB accessories.  Will someone please give me  instructions on getting these back so I can print the instructions for future use.  Getting very frustrating going through this each time.  Thank you.

Hi Marjean ,

Could you check if the following kernel extensions load successfully? You can use 'kextstat |grep vm' command to check that. If the output are some messages like:

233    1 0xffffff7f83509000 0x11000    0x11000    com.vmware.kext.vmci (90.8.1) 229339E3-2A75-3D93-A560-37512B6A0538 <12 5 4 3 1>

could you try to remove and readd USB controller of the VM?

First shutdown the windows VM. Open Virtual Machine -> Settings ->  USB & Bluetooth -> Click 'Advanced USB options' -> Remove USB Controller.  Then Click 'Add USB Controller ' on USB & Bluetooth settings pane. And power on the VM again.

If the kernel extension is not loaded, a reboot of your macOS may need.

"Remove USB Controller" is grayed out.  Suggestion?

"Remove USB Controller" finally appeared.  Followed your instructions and still do not have the printer, etc.

Hi Marjean ,

Followed your instructions and still do not have the printer, etc.

You should shut down the VM first and then 'Remove USB Controller' Smiley Happy . Could you check VM settings -> Printer,  'Match the default printer on the Mac' is checked ? Also, you need to un-install openvm tools and install VMware Tools.
