VMware Fusion Professional Version 10.1.2 (8502123) does not hand USB devices to Linux guest

I update my VMware fusion to the latest version, but to my surprise it does not route USB devices to my Linux guest anymore (RHEL 7).

Prior to this update, when I inserted a Barcodescanner (Honeywell 1450g), it would ask me whether to connect to the host or the VM.  Since the upgrade it does not ask that anymore,

I reinstalled VMware tools in the guest, and I removed/readded the USB controller.  No change, the device is not handed to the VM.

This affects all my scanners and other devices here.

After a macOS reboot, it worked again.  So it is not enough to install the update (and confirm the security warning), but a full reboot seems needed.

I believe the recommendation is to use the OpenVM tools in Linux guests, rather than VMWare tools.
