How to fix Win 10 guest that hangs or gets BSOD Driver Corrupted Expool?

VMware 14.1.1 build-7528167

Host: Ubuntu 16.04

Guest: Windows 10

This Win10 guest has been stable and running for a long time under VMware 14 on a Windows 10 host. Recently switched to Linux and started getting this BSOD. Searched the web and tried various changes to the vmx file, removed the VM and added it back, etc. Created a new Win10 VM, copied its vmx file to the guest directory and used it to start the vm -- still hangs or get BSOD. It seems to last longer when the system is not loaded but haven't been able to confirm that. Sometimes it runs for a few hours and sometimes it hangs/BSOD immediately after login. It happens even when the guest is idle. I definitely would appreciate some help!

What is the BSOD you are getting? (e.g. 0x0000007B INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE)

DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL. No hex address with it.

The DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL BSOD means a driver in the Windows 10 guest is corrupting memory.

Have you installed or updated any drivers in the guest recently?

No. As I said, this VM was perfectly stable on a Windows host.

Is the current Linux host OS installed on the same host hardware from when Windows 10 was the host OS?
