Network stats KBs or Kbs?

Hi helpful people

Just a quick question, the performance charts in vCenter for network use the units KBs.  Can someone confirm for me if this is definitely Kilo BYTES per second and not Kilo BITS.  Normally network stuff is in bits so want to double check.

Thanks!

There is also the IT industry convention that uppercase "B" stands for bytes while lowercase "b" stands for bits although there are some who don't follow conventions. Then there is always the interpretation/misinterpretation whether a Kilobyte is 1024 bytes or 1000 bytes (or some other derivative such as Megabyte, Gigabyte).

Anyway, have a look at this documentation page regarding the counters.

Thanks for the link:

Standard in which the statistic quantity is measured.

  • Kilobytes (KB) – 1024 bytes
  • Kilobytes per second (KBps) – 1024 bytes per second
  • Kilobits (kb) – 1000 bits
  • Kilobits per second (kbps) – 1000 bits per second

So it looks like it is KiloBytes.

Cheers
