Patch ESXi 5.5

Hi

My ESXi host runs on build version 1746974 i.e Express patch 3. I am planning to patch it to build version 7618464 i.e Express Patch 13. Is it possible to upgrade to latest patch available or what is the upgrade path?

ESXi host hardware : Cisco C200 Rack-mount server

As you see, you need to do 2 steps.

Anyway, make sure to check the hardware vendor compatibility matrix as well!

All ESXi patches are cumulative, feel free to install the latest available version without any addtitional stepts.

However if your ESXi is managed by vcenter server then you need to check interoperability between vcenter and esxi versions.

One of well known issues is due to SSL v3. See  VMware Knowledge Base

Thanks for your response Finikiez. IN this case I had to go through these patches as the latest one would not install straightaway.

6) ESXi550-201602001.zip

So, it doesn't appears that these updates are cumulative.

You are wrong.

Patches are cumulative.

Just use the latest one.

I got this message when trying to update the latest patch straight away. Is there another interpretation to this message?

Well it means that you don't have installed some vibs at the moment.

You can upgrade your host with a different command using necessary image profile like

esxcli software profile update --depot /vmfs/volumes/datastore/update/ESXi550-201612001.zip -p ESXi-5.5.0-20161204001-standard --dry-run

This will install you necessary vibs which are currenly missing.

Just replace archive name and profile name with your numbers.
