Failed to reconfigure virtual machine "vm _name". Invalid operation for device '2'. I`m trying to increase the virtual harddrive of the VM

Hi Everyone

I tried to check first if I found a similar discussion, but did not.

VMware ESXI 6.5.0

I am trying to increase the harddrive space of an existing VM from 16gig to 50 gig. My space consumed is already 19 gig, so I`m already unsure how it went beyond 16gig.

The underlying hdd is a 1TB.

If I try to amend the field under Edit, Edit Settings, Hard Disk 1, it gives this error:

Failed to reconfigure virtual machine BassPhone3. Invalid operation for device '2'

increase hdd size on vm.PNG

what do I do to fix this?

First, ensure you have no snapshots on this VMs. From the looks of your screenshot, this might already be the case. Second, update your ESXi embedded host client with the latest version available here and try again.

Hi I have downloaded the vib file onto my laptop and then uploaded into datastore.

What is the path to run the update now?

I managed to do the update. Received confirmation from the host.

Also made sure that no snapshot is running.

VM is not running.

still getting the same error.
