Google File Stream conflicts with VMWare Fusion

Environment: OS X 10.13.4, VMWare Fusion 10.1.1

We recently moved from Google Drive to the new Drive File Stream for desktop Drive synchronization and it appears (at least on any of my machines) that File Stream conflicts with VMWare Fusion.  Specifically, once File Steam is loaded, launching a VM in Fusion will fail with the following error message : "Cannot find a valid peer process to connect to".

Quitting File Stream does not resolve the issue, but uninstalling it does resolve the issue. The File Stream driver is shimming the files system at a low level spoof a mounted volume and I suspect this is the issue.

Has anyone else seen this problem?
