Drag and Drop installation of VMware Fusion 10.x

I just ordered a copy of VMware Fusion 10.1 to be installed on my MacBook Pro running High Sierra.  I can successfully download the dmg file.  When the installation process asks to drag and drop the disk icon to the given box, I simply cannot do it.  Basically, I followed Apple's guide: click followed by a second click without releasing my finger, and then drag the VMware Fusion icon to the given box and drop it there.  Well, my problem starts there.  After dropping it, the icon moves back to its original position on the desktop and installation never completes.  Does anyone have the same problem, and how can I solve this problem?  I also tried the same procedure on a 12" MacBook using three-finger drag and drop, and found that nothing happened.

Is there some other installation procedure without the need of drag-and-drop?

Thanks.

I don't think dragging and dropping anything is required to install Fusion.

Please check this KB article VMware Knowledge Base  and check if you followed all the installation steps correctly.

Hope this helps

drag/drop is just a click and hold, drag, then lift up the finger.  No multiple clicks.
