Hi,
I installed a centos website on vmware workstation player.
- i have no problem to access https site from my browser on the host machine.
- but, i cannot ping the virtual machine from the host.
- on the other hand, i have no problem to ping the host from the virtual
I have checked around but could not find a way to make it work.
does anybody have a clue on it?
Thanks in advance!
Lou
How do you have your network configured - bridged, nat, or other?
To me this sounds like a firewall rule in the CentOS VM, blocking icmp traffic.
André
I set it with NAT.
by the way, i tried to change it to bridged, ping was ok in bi-direction. however, i need a nat environment.
since port 443 is ok, i think there got be a way to make icmp work.

Hi, my centos does not have a firewall menu to control ports.
is there a way to check or edit it?
Lou
Maybe iptables doesn't allow ICMP traffic. Use iptables -L to view the current rules.
For commands to allow incoming ping requests see .e.g. https://www.thegeekstuff.com/scripts/iptables-rules "13. Ping from outside to inside"
