There was a problem trying to map the virtual disk volume

I have a Windows 10 1709 (Education version) guest, running on Windows 10 1709 (Education version) host. I am running Workstation 14.1.1 build-7528167.

I have 2 snapshots in place on the VM. When I try to mount the active .vmdk (as read-only) to copy some files out of it, I get the below error message.

I am able to map a drive letter from a Windows 7 Enterprise guest with 1 snapshot running on the same host.

Does anyone have any helpful suggestions? This is causing me some extreme frustration!
