Workstation Player installed on Win10 does not run any guest VMs at all

I have several VMs that were installed with Workstation Player on win7. I upgraded to win10 on my home desktop so the same host hardware. I installed the same version of Workstation Player on win10 and now every machine runs incredibly slow or just not at all. This is very frustrating and I'm considering going back to win7 or leaving vmware all together. I have the same exact hardware and out of the box win10 installed with workstation player 14 installed. This seems like a very standard testing scenario that is not working at all.

I tested this with all types of guests, including win7, win8, win10, ubuntu and esx. Nothing ran nor installed on a fresh machine. I tried putting additional settings in the config.ini file like allowLegacy but that did not help. I installed win10 on another desktop installed the latest workstation and still the same results.

Is anyone else using workstation on win10 having any performance issues? Better yet: does anybody have a fix?
