How to free-up unused space from host

Hi all,

Greetings of the day !

We have Esxi 6.5 , on top of that we are running four window server 2012 and one Ubuntu 16.04 host.
Issue is that Ubuntu server actually taking around 5 gb space but in VSXI data source its allocating around 200 gb space , suggest me how do I free-up these spaces .

Thanks

You may convert the disk from thick to thin, the it will occupy only the required space on the datastore.

Check the below Article for help.

Here is one simple approach, step-by-step:

  1. Convert the VM disks from Thick to Thin
  2. Free up some space by deleting or moving files — ISO images or powered-off VMs would be perfect
  3. Resume one of the paused VMs
  4. Use Storage VMotion to move the disks for that VM to another datastore
  5. Consolidate the snapshots
  6. Resume the remaining VMs
