I have Windows Server 2008 running as a virtual guest on a VMWare ESXi 6.5 host. Every few days the time on the server seems to change to a different time zone - it skips 2 hours backwards. For example I found this in the Event Viewer this morning, at a time when the server was unattended:
The system time has changed to ?2017?-?11?-?10T07:30:27.375595100Z from ?2017?-?11?-?10T05:25:54.594287500Z.
I have both the guest OS and ESXi host configured to update from the NTP server (time.windows.com). I also tried time.nist.gov as well but still got the problem.
Any idea why these unwanted updates are occurring?
To rule out any interference form the ESXi host see Disabling Time Synchronization (1189).
Also if needed:
Hi,
Please install vmware tools into the virtual machine to sync the time with ESXi and the vm.
