Hi,
Can anyone please tell me what EVC mode should I choose for the below CPUs ?
ESXI Running version: 5.5.0, 4345813
I have these 4 host in a cluster. Wanted to Enable EVC without any trouble.
vmesx1 :- Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2620 0 @ 2.00GHz"
vmesx2 :- Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2620 0 @ 2.00GHz"
vmesx3 :- Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5650 @ 2.67GHz
vmesx4 :- Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5650 @ 2.67GHz
You can use the VMware Compatibility Guide to search for the supported EVC modes for both CPU's. https://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php?deviceCategory=cpu
VMware Compatibility Guide - cpu
It has an option to display the CPU/EVC matrix for multiple processor families.
The E5-2620 is from Sandy Bridge generation and the X5650 is from Westmere generation, this way you should select the Westmere EVC level, since that level is the highest EVC level compatible with both CPUs. For additional information see the following VMware KB article: VMware Knowledge Base
Thanks for the response. That was my guess too. Just wanted to get it confirm from a specialist.
Thanks for the response. It is really helpful
i dont think the vmware interface actually lets you choose a evc mode higher than what your cpus support.
