I get the following error trying to install VMware Workstation 12.5.7 using the msi

and no other openssl.exe installation is present in the computer)

There may be something useful in VMware hosted product that does not install (1005027)

From the errors or lack of them there appears to be a permissions issues. Even logged in as administrator are you running the installer in an elevated level?  May not be needed, though want to rule it out as there are some access issues appearing the in the log snippets.

It turned out to be a domain issue. Our domain administrator updated some policies and after that the problem was solved. Unfortunately I do not have any information about the policies that was changed.
