Hello Team,
I have a small query if any one can assist me.
IHAC who reports that when he create a VM with typical setting the CD drives take SATA contoller
Below are the configuration details:
Hardware Version : 11
vCenter version 6.0 U3
ESXi version 6.0 U3
I tried the same in the lab environment and for me it takes IDE.
So my question is : I want to understand how it decide if it should be SATA or IDE for a VM created with typical settings.
Any suggestion please...
Regards,
Suman Rout
By default, if you create a Windows VM it will use a SATA controller type. If you create a Linux VM, it will default to an IDE controller type. When it comes to Virtual CD-ROM devices, it really doesn't make much difference because, at least in most cases, you will probably not be reading or writing from that device for very long.
Operating system choice. Linux = IDE, modern Windows OS = SATA, Legacy Windows OS = IDE
