Troubleshooting High I/O Wait in Linux (CentOS)

We're facing an urgent issue which we can't solve even asking our main server admin tech supports.

I'm looking for a solution to solve this issue.

The issue: High server load and I/O wait, which makes the servers inaccessible.

Let me describe roughly:

- The server is constructed with VMware.

- Linux (CentOS)

- Using cPanel/WHM

- High server load caused by High I/O wait.

- We're located in Japan and we block all access outside of Japan by IP.

- The server's high load occurs during midnight ~ morning local time, which no one would really access our servers.

- By looking at the logs, we can't really find anything.

Since the server's high load occurs during the midnight, we're expecting there might be some misconfiguration in VMware that we have that makes this happen.

Steps to reproduce:

Just by accessing the server, it takes forever to load.

Even the loading finishes, the load average is really high.

We're pretty new to VMware, so we don't know much.

We would like to know if this could be an issue caused by VMware.

If yes, then I would like to know where we should look for the problem...

Looking forward to your advice.

Thank you in advance.

Satoshi
