Workstation 12.5.7 PRO - NAT interface not translating/replying "non-VMware" MAC address

Hi guys,

I opened a ticket with VMware but so far no response, I'd like to share the issue with you guys.

Basically my VMnet8 (NAT) interface is not replying ARP packets from VMs with "non-VMware" MAC address,example:

- If I create a VM and generate a MAC address (under Virtual Machine Settings-> Network Adapter->Advanced->MAC Address) 00:50:56:...... it will work fine!

- If I change the MAC address to something like 50:00:00.... it will not work

I attached the Visio Topology I used to test this issue, the support data used on ticket and the PCAP file.

Thanks,

Diogo

Please review KB Changing the MAC address of a hosted virtual machine (507) that possibly may shed some more light on this. You may need to modify the .vmx file of the virtual machine to include these parameters: To change the MAC address to a non-vmware address (in the case of a P2V where software on the PC is licensed against the original MAC address) add these lines to the .vmx:

ethernetN.addressType = “static”

ethernetN.address = “<address>”
