Hello,

first of all i'm very beginner in vmware, i may ask dumb questions don't blame me please Smiley Sad

I've tried ESXi hypervisor 6.5 (no vcenter)  on a workstation, it's working well, i can update to 6.5 U1 by following this tuto

It's ok but it's just a lab, i want to install ESXi on a HPE server with the custom iso and i want to know how i can update ESXi for future update? can i use the previous tuto ? can i do "online" update ?

there are multiple ways to upgrade the ESXi VIBs. please refer the below KB article

https://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=21097...

If you are not sure about all of this process then follow the below steps

Option 1:

  1. manually download the Custom ESXi zip file from HP website
  2. upload the file to datastore
  3. place the host into maintenance mode
  4. ssh to the host and run the command

esxcli software vib install -d “/vmfs/volumes/Datastore/DirectoryName/PatchName.zip

Option 2: interactive installation

Yes you can use the same tuto, but I  would recommend you to follow official VMware docs. Ok, the point here is the upgrade process is same for Custom image and Vmware GA image.

You should make sure that if your current ESXi is custom build then you should upgrade with custom build image from same vendor.

you are using Vmware sofware reposi as a software depot. You should use HP software repository instead.

hope the following doc helps

Thanks,

in the HPE Software Delivery Repository vibsdepot (aka HPE Online Depot)  i only can download driver update, not esxi hypervisor update.

The command

esxcli software sources profile list -d http://vibsdepot.hpe.com/hpe/hpe-index.xml

return nothing because it's for update manager i suppose.

I've tried others .xml files but no one return me something.

I should use vmware depot for update ESXi hypervisor and then use hpe depot for driver?
