Installing ESXi 6.0 U3 on an IBM (not Lenovo) branded server

Hello everyone. According to Lenovo, their custom ESXi images are not supported on an IBM branded x3650 M4. They advise using a non-custom, VMware supplied image instead.

My question is, which company should I expect to have updated firmware/drivers available? IBM and Lenovo seem to point at each other.

How are other IBM (again, not Lenovo) branded server owners addressing this issue?

Thank you for reading this.

First please check if the hardware is supported for esxi 6.0u3 before trying any image. If you have support from IBM you can grab custom iso from them else try the vmware standard iso which includes most of the required drivers for using the esxi host.

Thanks,

MS

@RAJ_RAJ

I agree. It "should" work. Unfortunately, it's not supported by Lenovo. Even more unfortunate is that IBM doesn't appear to offer a custom 6.x image, only 5.5.

@RajeevVCP4

From what I can tell, IBM doesn't offer a custom 6.x image, only 5.x.

@msripada

Unless IBM makes a custom 6.x image available, I'll likely take your advice and use the standard ISO instead.

Thank you all for your time.
