Can anybody tell us something about the state of the vmware-vdiskmanager -R function ?
Is it still either useless or crashing ?

Ok - obviously you are new to this so let me explain.
vmware-vdiskmanager -R is THE MOST IMPORTANT function of vmware-vdiskmanager.
The -R function is used to repair vmdks with graintable errors and is used by support for Workstation, Fusion and ESXi.
The last known good build that came with Workstation is from Workstation 7.1
The last known good version which comes with the VDDK-kit is unknown - most of those builts are defunct.
The usual behaviour of the last versions that came with WS is:
            - they either run for a while and then report a success - which is a bluff
            - or they crash.
This problem is a known issue since years and if you tell me you do not know about it  then VMware quality control has a serious problem.
            Regards Ulli
By the way - you dont have the VMware employee icon - please request it.
