Appstack successfull mounted but no App in Windows 10

Hi there,

im starting my first steps with app volumes and have some problems with my first appstack. Im using the golden image from which i had published my desktop clones. I powered the virtual machine on and create a new appstack and provisioned the appstack to my golden image. Im logged in to the virtual machine and the app volume manager told me that im running in provisioning mode. I had installed a simple software google chrome and pressed ok. After the reboot im logged in again and the agent told me that the provisioning was successfull. In the App Volume Manager webconsole i can see the appstack and can assign it. Ive tried to assign the appstack to a domain user. Ive logged in to a different machine of the vm pool... All vms have the app volume agent installed. The app volume manager shows me an attachment, i can see on the vcenter that the vm has mounted the disk, but there is no google chrome app inside of the virtual machine.

I cannot find any error

I retried this process a different time and always the same problem... where can I start to troubleshoot this? The svservice.log shows me a lot of information which i cannot complete understand. Can please someone help me here?

Here is the svservice.log: http://pastebin.ca/3850389

Hi Apelz,

AppVolumes doesn't work with apps that are installed in the users profile. You need to install the offline installer for Chrome for it to be installed in program files rather then appdata.

Here is a link for you with the appropriate installer

Standalone installer:

Chrome for Desktop

Hi techguy,

thanks for your reply, but that isnt the problem. i used the msi file to install chrome and its installed on programfiles.

for the installation of chrome i used a domain admin to login and installed it with msi file:

When you are in App Volumes Manager and looking at the AppStack do you see that there is an application "Google" listed there?

Also if you log in to the App Volumes Manager server go to C:\Program Files(x86)\CloudVolumes\Logs

That location will have more details on the session and the AppStack being attached to the VDI.

Hi Joe,

thanks! but im not sure if im doing something wrong. my first try was an appstack with firefox and this wasnt working too. If its happens with both in the same way, i think its not a problem with chrome. I think there is somewhere else. these are my first steps with app volumes, so im not sure if im doing something wrong. at the moment its a lab enviromnent to understand the handling of the system.

I would check the logs to see what it says:

C:\Program Files (x86)\CloudVolumes\Agent\Logs\svservice.log

Check your mount points are there:

C:\snapvolumestemp\MountPoints\{*****}

and

HKLM\SnapVolumes-*****

Check under metadata\fs\svroot\program files (x86)\ and look for your chrome folder

The snapvolumestemp folder is hidden as well as the svroot under it.

Based on your info it looks like it mounted fine. Have you tried just browsing to program files(x86) and look for chrome? Are you assuming its not mounted because the icon is missing on the desktop? The icon on while provisioning could have been placed in the users profile and not the public desktop folder

Hi techguy,

ofc i checked that already. Theres no folder of google chrome inside programfiles or programfiles x86. If i understand its correctly, the svroot folder include the drive of the appstack?

I cannot access the 64bit programfiles folder inside that:

pastedImage_0.png

The error message means its not available... is this normal? I can access program files x86, but there is no google chrome folder too. So it seems the provisioning process wasnt successfull. I will try it again with another application.

You want to look for C:\snapvolumestemp\MountPoints\

Example:

Okay thanks! This looks empty:

I will try to create another appstack with another software.

You should see two mount points. One is your appstack and the other is the system appstack. See if that is empty as well. If so, then something went wrong during the provisioning process.

Hey guys,

im sry for my late response. I had now the time to make some tests again. Its now working here! I was testing this now with Windows 10 x64 Enterprise 1607. In my last tries where it was not working, i was using Windows 10 x64 Enterprise LTSB 2016.

All other steps was identically. The installation of the vm is identically. Has anyone experience with capturing appstacks under Windows 10 LTSB?

thanks!

Alex

Okay it looks like the provisioning is not working with Windows 10 LTSB 2016. You can already see the differents of the appstack in the webinterface:

pastedImage_0.png

The test package was created on Windows 10 Enterprise x64 LTSB 2016. The other package was created on Windows 10 Enterprise x64 1607.

A little late, and maybe to basic of a response, but did you make sure it's set to mount to W10?
