Hey there!
I have VMware Fusion 3.4 on an older macbook pro.
It's all working, but I want to move the VM to a newer Macbook.
I deleted all snapshots, shut down the VM, and copied it to the new Macbook.
On the new Macbook, I launch VMware and go File > Open.
The VM won't open, the error is 'internal error.'
Can older VM's be opened in newer versions of Fusion?
If not, should I try upgrading the older Fusion to the current version? I'm thinking I won't be able to get all the way up to version 8 because the OSX is so old - 10.7.5. Version 8 requires 10.9.
Any help much appreciated!
Hi,
Welcome at the vmware communities forum.
Somehow I don't think it is the VM that has a problem but VMware Fusion on your new macbook.
Can you run other virtual machines on your new macbook?
What version of macOS and Fusion did you install on the new machine?
Quite often an internal error after a new install resolves itself by just rebooting the macbook and try again.
If that doesn't work then it starts to sound like this issue:

I can run other VMs ok.
New machine OSX 10.10.5
VMware 8.5.8
I tried the fix in the link you suggested, it has not solved the issue unfortunately.
the error turned out to be file permissions.
in the act of copying the vm, some permissions got screwed up.
Ahh OK, that makes sense.
Glad to hear you figured it out.
Thanks for letting us know what eventually fixed it.
