VMware License question

Dear Users,

What license do I need to buy if i want to run 1 virtual machine (1 processors) in FT and 1 virtual machine in HA (1 processor).

Do I need one standard license or 2 standard licenses? or should I buy enterprise plus?

Thanks in advance!

  • vSphere Standard and Enterprise. Allows up to 2 vCPUs
  • vSphere Enterprise Plus. Allows up to 4 vCPUs

As per your requirement, Standard edition can fulfill this.

But upon enabling fault tolerance, a secondary virtual machine will be created. This virtual machine is an exact copy of the first one. Doesn't the secondary virtual machine use 1vCPU as well?

I see. Yes, 1vCpu will be counted from secondary host as well.

See the limit of das.maxftvcpusperhost in below doc.

Thanks, so I guess i will need to buy 2 standard licenses. This way I can assign up to 4 vCPU right?

BTW could you also send me the link of the screenshot you gave in the second answer?
