SATA and USB 3.0 support for win xp guest

    Wladca Novice

      Hi,

The VirtualBox creators and user community has been successful on enabling SATA and USB 3.0

      support for Windows XP guests.

Are these two supports in any way also possible (vmware natively or not) in case of Fusion hypervisor ?

          Hi,

No, not possible to have USB 3.0 support for Windows XP.

The lowest possible WIndows guest OS that has USB 3.0 support is Windows 7.

As for SATA support, I don't know. But I am wondering why it would matter?

The guest OS does not see the host OS hardware, so unlike with a USB external device that you can directly connect to the guest OS, why would you want to have SATA support within Windows XP?

Oracle VirtualBox provides ways to enable SATA and USB 3.0 for Windows XP 32Bits.

              ... 3 years later ... ??

              OK then.

Windows XP did not have USB3 driver support from Microsoft, which is the main reason that it isn't supported.

Even Windows 7 USB3 support needs an extra driver from Intel in order to enable that USB3 support as Microsoft did not add USB3 support until Windows 8.

I am aware of formal situation in Windows XP regarding these two. I also see VirtualBox environment managed to workaround that.

I suspect that they're just dumbing it down to USB 2 - I'm not aware of any way to get USB 3 working in XP.

Can well be. Even so it helps in some setups to have working USB at all as USB 3.0's fallback to 2.0 doesn't work in some physically 3.0 only environments (own observations).
