USB Devices not mounting - Fusion 8.5.7 + High Sierra

    aaronb1 Novice

I am running the beta High Sierra on my MacBook Pro (10.12.6 Beta (16G18a)) and Fusion 8.5.7. Since upgrading the High Sierra, I am no longer able to mount USB devices to my VMs inside of Fusion. I get a driver error and device remains mounted to the host.

      1) Can anyone else confirm this is a know issue with 10.12.6 and Fusion?

      2) Any workarounds/fixes?

      Thanks

      Aaron

I reported same issue over a week ago, was told it is a known issue caused by changes Apple made to USB processes and that VMware has reported it to Apple and is tracking it.  No workaround exists, no resolution likely until 10.12.6 is out of beta status.

            Hi aaronb1,

Would you please inform about the build number of  High Sierra you have just installed?

            Regards,

            -Rick

                That's Sierra, not High Sierra

                  Just corrected in 8.5.8.

A device error occurred at first time, but it was connected normally after i tried "connection to guest". may be.

Awesome - no release notes (that I could find) were posted for 8.5.8 but I am downloading and will try in a moment.

Confirmed 8.5.8 + 10.12.6 Beta USB issue appears to be resolved.

Tested mounting of usb stick, USB IR Learner, and USB-Serial device to guest windows 10 and <drumroll>...</drumroll> "driver error" message is gone, replaced with either automatic mounting or "ask" for the devices.

Will try some different devices later today.

Hmm, I just updated to Fusion 10.0.0 under High Sierra (release version doesn't show a build number) and plugging USB devices in doesn't generate a prompt for where to attach the device to and simply mounts in on the Mac side.

Under USB settings it shows no available devices, so this is pretty big hassle!

Any idea when the code changes in MacOS 10.12.7 will make it into High Sierra?

                          Hi grahamwright1,

In macOS 10.13, it requires user approval before loading new third-party kernel extensions.

So you need to open System Preferences -> Security & Privacy find and click the "Allow" button. After that, re-open Fusion 10 and give it a try.

                          Regards,

                          -Rick

You get prompted during the Fusion installation and have to allow the kernel extensions in the Security dialog during the installation. I did that when I upgraded, but it still shows no USB devices, and leaving the Settings/Security Preferences open while mounting a USB drive on the OSX host does not show any additional security authentication requests. Taking a look at the Log show possible issues with the usbarbitrator-socket, which could be a factor.......

I had a similar experience. Fusion 8.5.8 was running perfectly on my Mid 2011 Mac mini with the public release of High Sierra. After installing the version 10 upgrade, including the "Allow" step , USB stopped working. No reaction to an inserted drive, no USB devices listed. I need USB, so I've reverted to 8.5.8 for now.

I have a dj gig next weekend and i always like to test things out.  I have macbook with 10.12.6 and vmware fusion 8.5.8.  When i connect my external drive that has all my music, fusion doesnt prompt me like it used to to ask which system i wanted it to connect to mac or windows.  When i click on usb settings i do not see my device.   This is critical for me anyone can share how they were able to fix this?

Did other USB devices appear in USB settings? What guest OS are you running with?

I have experienced a similar issue.  I have a new MBPro with USB C connections and had been working with a copy of Fusion 8 (latest) and Win 7 Pro perfectly fine - even with the apple USB C dongle - and RT Systems radio cables.  Everything was absolutely fine until upgrading to the new Fusion 10.0.x this morning.  Help!!!
