False Memory Alerts (guest standby memory ?)

Hi,

I have memory alerts in the vsphere web console for some windows 2012 server .

Those machines has 8 GB allocated in the host, the guest has 4GB active memory in use and 4GB of standby , the sum is 8GB so the alert.

But I don't want vsphere to alert me due to that standby memory, is there a way to avoid this behaviour?

thanks

the exact message is "Virtual machine memory usage"

I have the yellow triangle in the navigator on the server name and I have that message in the "Alarms" tab

Go to vCenter home page > Monitor > Alarm Definitions > Virtual machine memory usage : Edit

In General tab you can enable or disable the alarm

In Triggers tab you can set threshold that at how much % utilization alarm should be triggered.

in Action you can mention the step to be performed in case alarm got triggered.

thanks for the suggestion but this does not solve my problem,

my problem is not to specify a different percentage of usage, the actual one is fine, the problem is that the guest is using half the total memory (4/8 GB) but is seen by vsphare as 100% (8 GB) due to the standby memory.

I would need one of two:

- not taking into account the standby memory in the alert measuring

- tell windows to not use so much  memory as "standby"

but for both I didn't find nothing googleing

thanks

You said guest using half memory. Are you checking this at host level or inside the guest windows OS. Make sure VMware tools are up to date, because its balloon driver tell the memory usage and handle it which is part of tools.
