get external VMname inside the VM

Hello,

Is there a way via vmware-tools (or something else) do determine from inside a VM how it is called in the vcenter ?

Hi,

No, not without logging into vCenter.

Hi,

there is a workround if you add something like  "guestinfo.vmname" into the VM's vmx-file. And then run within VM:

<VMwareToolsDir\rpctool.exe "info-get guestinfo.vmname"

But, it's very bad, because VirtualBox has its "vboxcontrol.exe guestproperty get vmname" since long out of box,

why  vmware has  not such one ?
