Ryzen 7 1700 - PSOD

Ryzen 7 1700 - PSOD

Error message: Can't boot system as genuine NUMA. Booting with 1 fake node(S)

Any ideas on if Vmware will be creating a patch for this issue? It has lots of reports across the internet.

ESXi should continue to operate normally despite that message being logged.  It's not a PSOD, which would paint the whole screen bright pink and would completely stop ESXi from continuing.

If you are not using any unusual vmkernel configuration settings or unusual host firmware (BIOS/EFI) configuration, the message often indicates a problem with the host firmware itself.  You should try to obtain a firmware update from your system board vendor.  For more information, refer to the following KB article: ESX 4.0 Update 1 boot error: Can't boot system as genuine NUMA (1016141) | VMware KB

Thanks for the reply. The error is a PSOD - pink screen of death, and ESXI fails to continue loading.

Huh... that's interesting.  All the reference information I have here suggests that the message is informational only and won't ever cause a PSOD.

Which version of ESXi are you using?  Can you please provide a screenshot/photo of the PSOD or a description of any other information that shows up on the screen?

Yes it is interesting. The version of ESXi is 6.5

I will take a photo tonight of the PSOD and upload it here.

Any idea on whether Vmware will be supporting these new AMD CPUs (Ryzen)?

Official support is usually limited to server-class processors: VMware Compatibility Guide - cpu

We do aim for broad CPU support, but your official support options for CPUs which are not listed in the compatibility guide are somewhat limited.  The VMware Communities here is always a good resource for unofficial support or advice.  :smileycool:

Have you obtained any further information about the NUMA warning/error?

If your issue is identical to that in ESXi 6.5 AMD 1800X Support? , the PSOD message (on the second line of the pink screen) is actually "pcpu 15 has a bad apicID 0xf".  Is that the case?
