SRM Server - does it need windows as host OS?

Hello!

I am preparing to build second server room with second storage and vmware. I am now thinking about setting SRM with array replication between sites. The problem is that I have no experience with SRM. I found that to make replication between sites work I need 2 vCenters (obviously) and 2 SRM servers.  The question is what technically is SRM server? Is it a plain VM Appliance - Linux with build in SRM software, or do I need Windows (2 licenses) with some installable software for that?

Hi,

Currently SRM is a Windows installable.

Like already stated on the other comment, SRM software is a Windows installable. SRM is supported to run only on Windows operating system and have the same compatibility of the vCenter Server for Windows OS, see:

Host Operating System Compatibility for Site Recovery Manager Server

Site Recovery Manager Server 6.5 runs on the same Windows host operating systems as vCenter Server 6.5.

For the most up to date host operating system compatibility information, see Supported host operating systems for VMware vCenter Server installation (KB 2091273).
