WIN7&XP DualBoot Conversion fails at 98% Unable to find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible

Hello,

I am trying to convert just the Windows XP partition from a dual boot machine.

I installed the converter on WinXP and I get at 98% the following error : Unable to find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible

When I try to boot the VM it gets to the loader but if I choose WinXP it doesn't boot, I get a NTLDR Error.

What I can do to fix this?

Which Converter version do you use? 5.5. was the last to support XP.

Have a look at VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Release Notes look for "dual-boot".

A win7/xp dualboot setup will very very likely use bootmgr on a win7 partition to boot - so if you dont copy the win7 partition there will be no bootable partition on the disk.
Workaround 1: copy all partitions

Workaround 2: copy xp-partition only and then use a BartPE LiveCD for the first boot and manually inject ntdetect.com,ntldr and a boot.ini
Workaround 3: copy xp-partition and use a floppy-image for the first boot
I dont think that any of the listed options will work without manually patching the xp-driver-settings.
