VSAN disk group HBA assignment

We are running VSAN 6.2 on Dell FX2 hardware.

Each host has two VSAN disk groups configured.

Some hosts have one disk group with disks claimed by vmhba2 and another disk group with disks claimed by vmhba3.

Few hosts have it mixed, i.e. disk group consists of disks claimed by vmhba2 and vmhba3.

Should each disk group consist of disks that belong to a single adapter or should it be mixed?

Hello,

Best practice is to have the disks from each disk-group assigned to the same contoller.

This is to ensure:

- That a single controller issue/failure won't cause failure of multiple disk-groups (or disks in different disk-groups).

- IOPS through each controller are relatively balanced (though the controller is usually not the main point of contention).
