Hello,
Are there any storage requirements to deploy NSX (for example, common storage?).
Say I have three ESXi (each in a different data center) using local disks for storage. All three are part of one cluster.
Can I deploy NSX in such setup?
Thank you.
Hi no1ce,
No there are no shared storage requirements for NSX; you can deploy your NSX Manager (OVA) on any storage/cluster. It will need to talk to your hosts/vCenter server and there are quite a few network requirements (see Network port requirements for VMware NSX for vSphere 6.x (2079386) | VMware KB ) however no shared storage.
Please refer to https://pubs.vmware.com/nsx-63/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/nsx_63_install.pdf for guidance on deploying NSX.
Deployment is not demanding any shared storage spec, however features do demand for shared storage . For eg : Edge HA to work properly ,shared storage is must. On a lighter note
controllers must operate on disks with low latency with peak write latency of less than 300 ms, and a mean write latency of less than 100 ms .
Low Latency storage is recommended for Controllers.
We cannot take advantage of Datastore Clusters.
Otherwise - follow the installation guide and happy days!
